How to save money on your Wedding Gown

The average bride spends over $2000 on her dress and that is usually for the gown alone. The most important way to save on your gown is to begin your search early! These are some general tips to follow when selecting and ordering your gown.
  • Take some time and look through bridal magazines, tear out pictures. If you have an idea of what you want when you start you will save time.
  • Research and compare. DO NOT BUY THE FIRST DRESS FROM THE FIRST PLACE YOU GO.
  • Check the bridal selection at department stores, go to bridal outlets and find out when bridal shops are having trunk shows.
  • The best time to shop at bridal stores is between January and March. Last years dresses are on clearance due to stores making room for the new season's dresses.
  • A simple gown will cost less. Consider a less expensive material. Compare prices on taffeta, silk, cotton and satin.
  • If you like the vintage look, check antique stores.
  • Do what I did and rent your gown. Yes you could rent your dream dress for a fraction of buying it. (The picture below in an earlier post of the woman with her foot in the water is me in my dress)
  • Amazon and EBay also sell wedding gowns.
  • Last but not least, Don't leave a deposit on more than one gown while you are still searching, keep all of your paperwork and follow the manufacturers measurements to order correct size. Alterations will cost less.

Just remember to start shopping early, do your homework and always comparison shop. Don't be afraid to ask for deals or discounts either. Try to be flexible and open minded and you can find the dress of your dreams at a price you can afford.
